Writing a CV for Denmark
Danish employers hire for fit within flat, self-directed teams. The application letter often matters more than the CV, and both should be specific, short and free of inflated language.
The norms
- Length
- One to two pages.
- Photo
- Optional and fairly common.
- Personal details
- Name, email, phone, city. No CPR number.
- Dates
- Month and year.
- Application letter
- A tailored ansøgning is expected and genuinely read.
- References
- Named referees are normal, with permission.
What gets CVs rejected
- Generic letters. Danish hiring managers screen hard for specificity.
- Formal, hierarchical language — it clashes with how teams actually work.
- Leaving out work authorisation when applying from outside the EU/EEA.
Template & type
Modern or Classic, 11pt, photo optional.
Language: Danish or English — English is accepted at most larger employers
Finding the roles
- Copenhagen concentrates pharma, shipping, tech and design hiring.
- Networking and unsolicited applications work unusually well.
- Many roles list English as the working language even at Danish firms.
