Writing a CV for Norway
Norwegian CVs are short, plain and honest. References are usually named, the søknad is expected, and formal documentation of qualifications matters in regulated sectors.
The norms
- Length
- One to two pages.
- Photo
- Optional; slightly less common than in Sweden.
- Personal details
- Name, email, phone, city. No fødselsnummer.
- Dates
- Month and year.
- References
- Two named referees with phone numbers is standard.
- Certificates
- Attach diplomas and attestations for regulated roles.
What gets CVs rejected
- Omitting references entirely — Norwegian employers call them.
- Overselling. Understated, verifiable claims read as more credible.
- Ignoring the language requirement in healthcare, teaching and public administration.
